Tyler Samson Neiberg
Thus begins my love affair with the Wheaten Terrier. When I was a junior at Tulane, my closest friends got two Wheatens named Bailey & Madeline. I met them as soon as they came home, and fell in love with both of them. The wheaten greetin', the non-stop kisses, the wagging tushie...Bailey and Madeline had completely stolen my heart. Bailey and Madeline moved to Florida with their mommy and daddy, and I went to visit them over New Year's of 2004. I had just gone through a heartwrenching break-up, and decided to get my own puppy. I got Tyler on January 2, 2004 and he became the leading man in my life. Tyler was high on the social ladder in New Orleans, spending his days as the ringleader at Pooch's Palace and his nights with his mommy at bars like The Bridge Lounge (yes, dogs were allowed in the bar). He marched in Barkus every year and played with every single puppy in our apartment complex.
Since moving to Connecticut, Tyler has met a new best friend, Brody. Brody is also a wheaten and they do everything together, including going to baseball games. Every year, we go to Bark in the Park. Tyler and Brody eat hot dogs, play with the mascots and watch the game. They have a very hard life - yeah right!

In mid-Augsut of 2005, my dear friend Margaret (who is very active with the LSPCA) sent me an email with a "wheaten-mix" who was looking for a home. I saw the email, called the SPCA and within a day I had gone to visit Charlie at his foster home. Charlie had been abused, chained to a pole and was a nervous wreck, but I could the love see in his eyes and I knew immediately I had to rescue him. I called my mother, forever the enabler, and we decided that Tyler would be getting a brother:) Charlie Oliver became a part of our family on August 25, 2005. On Augsut 27, 2009, I evacuated my city for Hurricane Katrina. Every single day, I thank G-d that I rescued Charlie when I did. He is a very lucky boy!
Despite being described as a "wheaten-mix", B & I think Charlie is more labradoodle/hound mix. We call him our Woodle, for wheaten and poodle, but that only important thing is that he is purebred adorable!
Our Addison's Angel
Charlie Oliver was diagnosed with Addison's disease when he was four years old. We noticed he was acting very lethargic, and he could not even get himself onto the sofa anymore. I just knew something was wrong, so B & I took Charlie to the Emergency Vet at 9pm one night. The wonderful doctor ran tons of tests, and told us that Charlie was having an Addisonian Crisis. Had we waited until the next morning, Charlie would not have made it. Charlie spent a couple nights in the hospital to stablize his cortisol levels. He is now a very happy and healthy puppy. He takes his prednisone every day, and gets his (VERY EXPENSIVE) shot every 25 days. Between being beaten, the Hurricane and the Addison's disease, Charlie has not had an easy life, but he is now the biggest love bug and I swear, his eyes say "thank you" every day.
